The Road to All Things Unwieldy

Ten long days without telly.  But it has returned, and its crimson-tinted piano black frame rises anew like a phoenix from its rather massive box – or it would, if I could lift it.  Damn it.  Damn it all to hell.

Look at the precious though:

In other news, the NY times have published an interesting glimpse into the production of The Road, a very promising adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer prize-winning novel of the same name.  John Hillcoat is an inspired choice of director – his last movie, The Proposition, captured much of the bleak, washed-out desolation that suffuses McCarthy’s masterpiece, and struck a similar tone in terms of atmosphere.  Viggo is a little more action-hero than I’d like, but the method looks to have left him gaunt and miserable enough for the role.  Not a single bloody stunt though, gents – please.

As for the music, we can only hope Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are charged with composing the soundtrack for The Road as they did for Hillcoat’s last film; I don’t know that I can imagine a better fit.  Click here for more.
